definitely a water sign

May 26th, 2004

Every time I’m trying to sleep but can’t, I imagine myself diving gracefully into a moonlit pool for a swim. I relish the feel of it, in any form. I will stand in the middle of a torrential rain shower being soaked by fat, lukewarm drops while everyone else around me is running for their car, covering their heads with a folded up newspaper, hoping that one pitiful square foot of sodden newsprint will keep their nice suit from being ruined. I will tilt my head back to the clouds, smiling, as people speedwalk to their destinations, praying their umbrella holds in the stiff winds and there are no puddles in their paths.

I truly love the feeling of being in a lake of water so big, I feel weightless and drawn by its strength and muted power. You can’t help being as graceful as a ballerina, moving slowly, fluidly drawing your arms through it. Standing in a shallow part, with your hands just under the surface and your fingers poking through, it feels like silk being drawn across the sensitive webbing of your fingers as you run your hands back and forth. I dream of water at such a perfect temperature, just cool enough to be soothing, but not so cool as to make you feel subjected to anything but your own body temperature.
