I’m not going to say I speak Dutch.
I will say, however, that I practiced Yoga Nidra today without benefit of the cd I bought when I was in India, and I find it nearly impossible to do my own vocal Yoga Nidra. So, I found one online. I downloaded it, thinking ‘sweet! I’ve got a backup meditation mp3!’
It’s in Dutch. The entire 44 minutes is all crazy sentence structure and interesting syllables. I figured from the first few minutes, I wouldn’t be able to understand a thing. But when I laid in savasana and just opened my mind to being WITH the yoga nidra practice, without expecting understanding of it, I feel like I still experienced a refreshing meditation. Which is curious, to say the least. Is this what learning another language while sleeping is like? Because I like it.
I learned how to pronounce quite of lot of the body parts, and learned the names for a few of them. I can count to five. I know top from bottom, left from right and back from front.
It wasn’t intended to be an experiment, but it turned out to be one. Since I know literally zero Dutch to start with (except for ‘I’m sorry, I don’t speak Dutch), it was like starting from a blank slate. I know quite a bit more French, Spanish and Russian. I should look for some meditation cds in those languages and see how much easier they are to follow!

In a totally amazing, astounding, lovable, mesmerizing way. I just (finally) saw the Lady Gaga – Bad Romance video and I’m madly in love with her. She’s just … immeasurably avant garde, tremendously talented and ridiculously beautiful.
So, I’m happy if she wants to call me up for some Romance, be it bad or good!
In other news, there isn’t much news. I’m still up in the air about my trip to Vegas for the weekend of the 5th – MOSTLY because I forgot that it’s Super Bowl Sunday (because *that’s* totally on my radar. Not. Is Brett going to be there? No? Well, alright then.) and the hotels are booked like crazy. If I make it there, it’ll probably be for the dinner on Saturday, some partying that night, then a flight back on Sunday. Unless I can get some hiking of the Grand Canyon done, in which case, awesome. I’d like to do that. But I truly doubt it’ll happen this time.
I was going through my photos from Christmas (remember when I said this would eventually be a photoblog? I’m working on that!), and found a hilarious picture I didn’t realize I’d taken.
The deal on the Thomas Family Christmas is this: We have an order. Everything goes in this order. I don’t care if it’s ten of us or two of us, the order doesn’t fail.
- We wake up. I generally find this handy to do *every* day, but especially on Christmas.
- We get coffee. God knows I refuse to be cheerful, even on christmas, without coffee.
- We open stockings. Yes, we filled each other’s last night. Yes, we know what’s in everyone else’s, but that’s the FUN of it! I love wrapping odd-shaped things so my dad can’t guess what it is!
- (sorry, did I ruin Christmas for you? Yes, it’s true. Santa does not fill stockings around here.)
- We go in a round-robin style, each person opening an item, then the next person. No tearing into gifts at our house – it lasts longer and is more appreciated!
- We take pictures! Okay, *I* take pictures, and half of them (as you might figure) are of me. Why? Because I can.
One of my favourite pictures from this Christmas, I just discovered. My cousin Anne photobombed me, and I wanted to share it because it’s hysterical:
Here’s the picture I took:
Cute, right? A little disheveled, since I didn’t do anything with leftover makeup from the night before, and I’m positive I didn’t even bother to brush my hair.
But the highlight is Anne’s photobomb:
I love that kid. She’s hysterical.

Check it out, and be inspired to write your own Life List! I’ll post After January, I will post this list as a page on my blog, so that you can visit it any time you’d like and see what I’ve crossed off!
