an internet-delivered smack on the ass

January 30th, 2007

If you look at the sidebar (ooh!  pretty new theme!), just below the calendar there is a “Joe’s Goals” button thingie.  I’ve listed some of my daily personal goals on their website and that button is a visual reminder to Get On It!  I think I might find it helpful to see a point system in place for the things I do to better myself – as competitive as I am, I may go a little nutso, but that’s okay.  YOU, dear reader (*cough* Mom, and *cough* Lesley), will be able to track my progress along with me!  Cheer me on! Make your own!
Or, eat Twinkies on the couch while you laugh at me.  Whatever works.

Things that haven’t yet come to pass.

Way way way (way!) back in the something of last year, I met a lovely Irish girl over Craigslist.  I was looking for new friends – I didn’t know anyone, not really, and Adrian was working a lot.  I didn’t exactly have lots of people to talk to working as a nanny; three year olds say the darndest things, but they don’t always hold up their end of the conversation, you dig?

So, I met a few cool people, and ended up hanging out with them and Maeve (the Irish girl, of course) was one of my favourites.  Through no fault of either of ours, we never really got to see each other.  Adrian and I were working a shit 24/7 job and prepping for a wedding/getting through a wedding/living after the wedding and such.  As it turns out, Maeve had a steady stream of visitors from her home island and didn’t get to hang out with me, either.

So, what’s stopping us now?  She’s in bloomin’ Buenos Aires, as it turns out and headed far, far beyond soon.  Patagonia (my dream!), Easter Island, Chile…you name it.  I’ve just recently heard about their blog and it’s good reading.  Makes you want to travel.

Most importantly, I came across their Final Post From Vancouver.   Next time I bitch about not having anything to do – I’m going to read this blog and pick one thing (or even two!) at random and go SEE them or DO them.  They saw more of Vancouver in the year they were here than I did in nearly twice as long.  Okay, maybe I’ve only been here six months or so longer – but I still haven’t done even half of that.

I certainly never had the balls to go to Robo Sushi on Davie Street.

the chicken files

January 28th, 2007

“I think the chicken’s gone off. What’s the date?”

“The 28th.”

“Oh, well it shouldn’t go off until after tomorrow. It smells funny though.”

“All raw meat smells funny. Cook it. It’s fine.”

***later, while he taste tests the chicken***

“Ooh! Cold chill!”

“Are you cold?”

“No, just one of those chills…like a ‘Someone’s walking over my grave’ thing.”

“Or like a “Someone’s eating Toxic Chicken” thing?”

“Possibly.”
