a nauseatingly merry christmas…

December 25th, 2005

First – apologies for the lack of posting. I’ve had quite a bit to tell everyone, but Christmas is the busiest time of year, and this year hasn’t been anything short of crazy. I solemnly swear to uphold my end of the blogosphere in the future. *nods emphatically*

Now, in other news – Christmas has arrived. With quite a bang. Or something.

Adrian and I did Christmas between us on Thursday, emptying stockings that were stuffed quite full, and opening the multitude of presents between us and from my side of the family. I was quite excited to find out just how much Adrian listens when I ramble on about things I’d like to eventually buy and things I miss that I used to have (but are too heavy to ship from Charlotte). My stocking bulged with lovely things like a garlic press and wooden spoons and good kitchen shears and the like – I also squealed with delight over the set of glass bakeware so I can start making casseroles and cakes again! The tupperware also went over well as I’ve been using plastic food containers for our leftovers. I was quite happy with what we gave each other and didn’t need anything more.

So, I was surprised and happy – yet dismayed – when I found out he had saved some presents aside to give me on Christmas Day at his parents house. I didn’t have more presents to give him, you see? I did end up getting him a nice pull-over jacket for him to open, but that was about it.

There we were this morning, sitting with his family in the living room, Adrian playing Santa and handing out presents and me with big smiles over the lovely gifts from and for his parents. I smiled when A handed me a misshapen gift that bore a tag with “Roses are Red…” on it. Awww. And in it, a lovely lush red towel for my very own. I’ve always said he has Bachelor Towels, and we should purchase some new ones for us – ones that may even match…

The next present said “Violets are Blue…” but upon opening it, another tag on top of the present said “Not Actually Blue” which made me laugh. I found the toque that I had loved in the window display at the Bay – the official Canadian Olympic gear toque with the ear flaps and fun red ties. I had loved it in passing, and I loved it as a gift. He’s good at keeping secrets, this boy. I had no idea he had thought of it after that!

The third gift said “Sugar is Sweet…” and (mmmm!) held a box of the Turtle candies that I keep picking up at the grocery store and putting back down. Naughty, but very yummy all the same.

At this point, I was still laughing over the cute way he had wrapped and ordered the gifts – it was thoughtful and lovely and wonderful and charming – and he had told me before that this year, the gifts were more ‘practical than romantic’ – an aspect I was perfectly okay with. So, I really had no idea what the fourth present would be, but I certainly never expected the small but oddly shaped present to be anything other than say…pot holders.

The tag said simply “And…”

I ripped open the paper and found a jewelry box and a oddshaped ball (“that’s just to disguise the shape…”). Inside the box was a beautiful white gold delicate hammered band, and a tag that said “Will you marry me?”

Of course I started sniffling and smiling and then the tears started to pour down my cheeks and then all I could do was nod and hug him and whisper ‘yes’ against his neck while he hugged me tight.

It was the most surprising and wonderful and amazing and thoughtful and delightful and…

It’s perfect. We’re engaged. And I’ve never been happier in my entire life. Even getting a horse for Christmas couldn’t top it.

most boring person ever

I honestly can’t remember a time since I started blogging when I’ve been quite so utterly dull. Looking back – yes, there were a lot of posts that didn’t make sense, and a lot of random things. But there wasn’t really a time where I was completely slack in the ‘fun’ department.

It’s weird because life isn’t exactly slow right now. I just can’t seem to get my priorities taken care of. I’ve been a bit under the weather this week, and I’m hoping that straightens up before Christmas. We have a company Christmas party to go to tomorrow night (his company, of course, as tokitikki designs currently has only one employee), as well as a wrap party for the tv show to go to on Thursday.

As anticipated, I’m going absolutely batty trying to figure out what to wear to either of them. Remember – I’m a NANNY. I wear jeans, tee shirts and no make up to work. I have a ton of cute stuff I could wear in Charlotte (at least I think I do…), and very little here. There is no telling how this is going to end up. *sigh*

I also put up a new load of pictures on the design site – not all of the pictures are great, and that’s due to my lack of Photoshop knowledge, not Adrian’s skills. He’s going to re-edit some of the pictures (properly) so that when the new site goes live, they’ll be perfect. I really don’t get how to make the colours look like they do in real life. I know of one picture that i did a great job on. the rest of them are due to pure luck on my part. Whatever. It’ll do for now.

I’ve been beading tonight. A lot. Adrian has been photographing all my new stuff. Be warned, tomorrows post is a doozy.

My very very very last item is a gorgeous pearl, swarovski crystal and sea opal glass creation that is just yummy. I modeled the piece for him and showed him how it could be worn two different ways. Then I went to admire my handiwork in the mirror.

“I’m really glad I changed out those facetted silver beads for more crystals, I think it really kicks the design up a notch. Adds a hint of ‘rich’ to it.”

“A hint of rich? What is that…middle class?”
